Qualify for Postage Savings

How Do I Qualify For Postage Savings & Mailing Discounts?

The price of postage when performing a mailing is most often the largest cost—even above printing and other labor charges. It is vitally important to get postage savings. It makes sense to reduce unnecessary cost wherever possible. There are a few key ways in which a mailer can qualify and receive discounts when performing a mailing. Two of the most critical among them are address verification and barcoding.

Address Verification

Address verification—specifically Delivery Point Verification (DPV)—is the process of identifying addresses that cannot receive mail. This feature alone can often reduce mailing costs dramatically—often as much as 25%. This “discount” does not come from the USPS. Rather, it comes from not mailing pieces that would otherwise be returned. In other words, if the address is bad, why even bother to send a mailpiece?

Barcoding

This is the process that involves taking a CASS-certified address list and then printing it such that a barcode appears on each mailpiece. Barcoding qualifies your mailing to receive automation rates. In addition to barcoding, there are other standards that affect your ability to receive automation discounts, such as the dimensions of a mailpiece as well as meeting the requirements for minimum number pieces.
